CryptoMessage is a tool to send encrypted email messages across the internet so
that you can communicate with other people in secrecy.
How does it work?
Use the Encryption tool to send an encrypted message.
The message recipient will receive and email with the encrypted data and a url to
the Decryption tool. Using a previously agreed upon
key between the sender and the recipient, the recipient can retrieve the original
message.
We suggest using a free email service such as
gmail or hotmail for
the recipient email address. From time to time emails from cryptomessage.com get
caught in spam filters, and these free providers generally allow you to modify your
filters to allow your message to get through.
Why should I encrypt my email?
Email systems are, by nature, insecure. When you send an email, it can pass through
many networks before reaching the target mailbox. The mail must be stored somewhere,
and if you use a free email provider, your email is sitting on a remote server that
you have no control over. Anyone who does have access to that server can read your
private conversations. Lastly, most email is protected by a password that can easily
be cracked with your computer at home. CryptoMessage removes the ability for an
unauthorized person from read your personal email.
Today, we have no way to determine who is reading our email. Hopefully, by now you
realize how incredibly easy it is for someone to eavesdrop on your email account.
In fact, some countries are making it legal to not only intercept your email, but
to store and analyze your conversations with other people. You might be saying 'I
don't need encryption because I'm not doing anything illegal' or 'Encryption is
for spy stuff anyway'. How many times have you emailed yourself a login and password
so you don't forget it? How comfortable are you with the fact that anyone can see
everything in your inbox at anytime as if you published it on the internet? With
CryptoMessage, those private emails look like jumbled text to any eavesdropper so
you can rest assured that your messages are, in fact, private.
A better question is why shouldn't you encrypt your email?
How do I get a key?
You can either make up a key that is easy to remember between you and the recipient,
or you can use the key generator to create a random
key for you. Either way, keep in mind that the same key must be used by both encryption
and decryption, so the sender and recepient need to exchange a key prior to decryption.
Is it secure?
CryptoMessage is secure for most applications where two people would like to communicate
in secret. This system allows for e-mail transmission of messages that can be retrieved
at any time without the contents of the message getting compromised by insecure
e-mail systems.
